Chapter 1156 of One Piece
once again dives deep into the shadowy past of Rocks D. Xebec — one of the most
feared and enigmatic figures in pirate history. In a shocking flashback, it’s
revealed that Rocks wasn’t just after one, but two powerful Devil Fruits to
realize his grand and dangerous ambitions.
Even more intriguing: one of
these Devil Fruits may have been located in Elbaf, the land of giants.
So what were these two fruits?
Let’s explore the theories:
1. A Mythical Devil Fruit
Possibly Eaten by Prince Loki
There are strong hints that
one of the Devil Fruits Rocks was after ended up in the hands of Loki — the
notorious prince of Elbaf. According to rumors, Loki murdered his own father,
King Harald, to claim a sacred fruit passed down through Elbaf’s royal family.
However, Chapter 1152 suggests
the situation might not be so simple. The death of King Harald may have been a
complex betrayal, or even a setup to frame Loki.
Still, the Devil Fruit stored
in Elbaf’s royal castle likely ended up with Loki, a prince with a dark
reputation. But what kind of fruit was it?
The prevailing theory is that
this fruit may be inspired by Surtur, the fire giant from Norse mythology who
brings about Ragnarok. In the flashback, Rocks even mentions that the fruit
would have been far more devastating in the hands of Harald, due to his massive
giant physique and immense strength.
This supports the idea that
the fruit wasn’t just powerful — it had massive destructive potential,
especially in the hands of a giant.
2. Could It Be the Hito Hito
no Mi, Model: Nika?
Another strong theory suggests
that Rocks may have been after the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, the same Devil
Fruit Luffy eventually consumed.
Elbaf holds a deep reverence
for the Sun God. Loki himself even proclaims to be the “Sun God.” This opens up
the possibility that the legendary Devil Fruit passed down in Elbaf’s royal
line might have been none other than the Nika Fruit.
In Chapter 1152, during the
chaos of King Harald’s downfall, a mysterious character finds a chest in the
treasure room and exclaims: “This is Elbaf’s treasure — the forbidden Devil
Fruit!”
This doesn't seem to match
Loki’s personality, suggesting the person might be from the World Government.
The theory goes that the Nika Fruit was either stolen or swapped out secretly,
and later transported under heavy CP9 escort — until Shanks intercepted the
ship, likely knowing the true value of the cargo.
This means Loki may have
unknowingly eaten a different fruit, still believing he held the royal heirloom
— or he knowingly lied to preserve his image as a divine figure.
This theory ties into
speculation that Joy Boy might have been a giant — especially given the massive
Straw Hat stored in Mary Geoise. If true, Rocks may have believed the Nika
Fruit would have reached its full potential if eaten by a giant like King
Harald, not a regular human.
3. Was the Other Fruit the Ope
Ope no Mi?
If one fruit was the Nika
Fruit (or the Surtur-like mythical Elbaf fruit), what was the second?
One recurring theory ties Rocks
D. Xebec to the Ope Ope no Mi — the "Ultimate Devil Fruit." Chapter
1156 adds weight to this speculation.
We know that Rocks once
confronted Imu, the shadow ruler of the world. But instead of continuing the
battle, he retreated, vowing to return. This suggests he realized he wasn’t
strong enough to defeat Imu… yet.
In Chapter 761, Doflamingo
references the “National Treasure of Mary Geoise,” a secret so powerful its
revelation could shake the world. He even says he could have used it to rule
the world — if only he had access to the Ope Ope no Mi, specifically for its Immortality
Operation.
So what exactly is this
“treasure”? If the "treasure" is actually Imu, an immortal being who
has ruled the world for centuries, then it makes sense why Rocks would covet
the Ope Ope no Mi — to steal or destroy that immortality.
In this light, Rocks may have
needed:
- One fruit for destructive power
(Elbaf-based)
- One fruit for eternal life or control (Ope
Ope no Mi)
He hunted them both to prepare
for an epic showdown. But before he could enact his plan, he was defeated at God
Valley.
Interestingly, Doflamingo
might have inherited part of Rocks’ plan — through family connections to the
Donquixote lineage or leaks within the World Government.
4. What About the Uo Uo no Mi
or the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi?
Another theory posits that Rocks
may have once possessed the fruit he was hunting — and it was stolen and
offered as a prize at the human hunt in God Valley.
That could explain his sudden
attack — not just political, but personal.
Two key Devil Fruits in that
era were the:
- Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (Kaido’s
fruit), and
- Nikyu Nikyu no Mi (Kuma’s paw fruit).
Both are devastatingly
powerful, but it was Big Mom who seemed more focused on obtaining the Seiryu
fruit at God Valley — suggesting Rocks was pursuing something else.
5. Could Luffy Now Hold the
Two Fruits Rocks Was After?
Here’s the twist: If the two
fruits Rocks sought were the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika and the Ope Ope no Mi,
both are now within Luffy’s circle.
Luffy has already consumed the
Nika Fruit.
And Law — his ally — holds the
Ope Ope no Mi.
Even if the mysterious Elbaf
fruit ended up with Loki, it’s possible Loki might ally with Luffy in the
upcoming war against the God’s Knights in Elbaf.
And if the target was Nikyu
Nikyu no Mi, Kuma is also currently in Elbaf and is being restored by Lilith of
Vegapunk’s team.
Now, with Luffy preparing to
confront Imu directly, he may — knowingly or not — end up fulfilling Rocks’
long-abandoned mission… but with one key difference:
Luffy isn’t fighting for domination — he’s fighting for liberation.
