So far Norland has been shown in two arcs, namely Arc Skypiea and Arc Dressrosa. In the Skypiea Arc, it is told that Norland helped the people of Shandia from the outbreak of forest fever.

In the Dressrosa Arc, Norland is shown as a proud statue of the Tontatta tribe because he is considered a hero in the past. In this Arc, Norland is told to fight with the ancestors of the Tontatta tribe and win the fight.

Why is Norland an important character? Oda Sensei never creates a scene or an event without a reason. Every event in One Piece is always related to each other, such as the straw hat that was originally thought to belong to Shanks but actually belonged to Pirate King Roger.
And Oda Sensei never included an unimportant character in two arcs at once. But Norland can be in two arcs indicating Norland can be an important character in the future.
Norland also explored the Grand line and the New World many times and returned with all his crew. That means Norland was a very strong, reliable person and a great sailor.
It is possible that before Roger discovered Raftel, Norland had already discovered it (Just a theory).
