38 years before Luffy’s
current story, Rocks D. Xebec launched an attack on God Valley, an island used
at the time by the Celestial Dragons (Tenryuubito) and the God’s Knights to
hold a twisted “sick game”: a hunt of slaves and the island’s natives for their
cruel entertainment.
However, that attack ended up
being the final chapter of Rocks’ life.
What exactly was Rocks D.
Xebec’s motive in leading the most dangerous pirate crew in history to God
Valley? What was he after, that he was willing to directly challenge the
Celestial Dragons and the highest powers of the World Government?
Here are some possibilities...
and the clues revealed so far!
1. Rocks Had No Problem
Causing Trouble with the Celestial Dragons, But There Was an Extra Motivation
That Day
Rocks D. Xebec was known as
someone bold enough to challenge the world’s highest authority. He had once
created chaos in Mary Geoise during a Reverie, held five kings hostage, fatally
injured an admiral, and even confronted Imu, the secret ruler of the One Piece
world.
So, it’s not surprising that
Rocks had a long history of targeting the Celestial Dragons and the World
Government.
However, the attack on God
Valley wasn’t just a random assault.
This line gives us an
important clue: something extremely valuable was taken from Hachinosu, and
Rocks may have attacked God Valley not just to strike the Celestial Dragons,
but to retrieve something he believed belonged to him.
Interestingly, Rocks’ crew
members like Big Mom and Kaido also had their own personal motivations for
going to God Valley. This emphasizes that although the Rocks Pirates were full
of powerful monsters, they weren’t truly united.
2. What the Celestial Dragons
Took Is Still Unknown!
To this day, there’s no
official confirmation of what exactly was stolen by the Celestial Dragons from
Hachinosu, which enraged Rocks D. Xebec and led him to lead an attack on God
Valley.
However, some hints and fan
theories make this topic even more intriguing.
One of the most striking facts
is that several rare Devil Fruits—including the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi and Uo
Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu—were prepared as prizes for the "human
hunting" game held at God Valley. This information was leaked to the
public by Ginny two weeks before the event, and it likely became the direct
trigger for Rocks’ actions.
If what was stolen was indeed
a Devil Fruit... which one was Rocks actually targeting?
- Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu?
The Fruit Ginny called “the strongest Devil Fruit” ended up being taken by
Big Mom and given to Kaido.
- Nikyu Nikyu no Mi?
Later consumed by Kuma, it’s proven to have powers that can save people.
Many survived the God Valley incident thanks to Kuma’s help.
But the fact that these Devil
Fruits could be stolen later by Ivankov and Kuma—or found first by Big
Mom—suggests that they might not have been Rocks’ top priority at God Valley.
- Alternatively: Could it have been the Ope Ope no Mi?There’s a compelling theory that Rocks already possessed the Ope Ope no Mi but was keeping it until he found someone capable of performing the Perpetual Youth Operation. Doflamingo himself said this operation was the key to using the “National Treasure of Mary Geoise,” which some fan theories suggest might be Imu himself. And if Rocks truly had a direct confrontation with Imu, perhaps he understood the real potential of that surgery.
But here’s an even wilder and
more shocking theory:
What if what was stolen wasn’t
a Devil Fruit... but Rocks’ own child?
This theory comes from
speculation that Buggy is the son of Rocks D. Xebec, supported by the
similarity in their bounty poster poses (Rocks and Yonko Buggy).
And we know that Shanks
was found by Roger inside a treasure chest taken from God Valley. Buggy and
Shanks apparently grew up together on the Oro Jackson.
Could it be that Buggy was
also found in a chest—just a different one—and discovered on the same day by
Roger’s crew?
3. One Thing’s for Sure:
Rocks’ Invasion of God Valley Marked His End
To truly know what the
Celestial Dragons stole from Hachinosu that drove Rocks D. Xebec to recklessly
attack God Valley, we still have to wait for Oda’s full reveal.
But one thing is almost
certain—the God Valley incident marked the end of Rocks’ pirate career.
Before that, Xebec was truly
at the peak of his power. He had seized Hachinosu as his main base and
successfully led the most terrifying pirate crew in history, filled with
monsters like Edward Newgate (Whitebeard), Kaido, Big Mom, and Shiki.
However, according to Sengoku,
on that day, Garp had to team up with Roger to stop Rocks’ ambitions. A
massive battle broke out in God Valley, and the name Rocks D. Xebec
vanished from history.
After his defeat, the Rocks
crew disbanded immediately. It’s not surprising, since they weren’t bonded by a
deep nakama relationship like the Straw Hats, but were formed through Davy Back
Fights and Rocks’ overwhelming power. Once their leader fell, they all pursued
their own ambitions again.
But... did Rocks really die
in God Valley?
There are some details that
raise suspicion:
- God Valley itself disappeared from the map,
seemingly erased from history.
- Rocks’ body was never found,
and there is no grave or any solid evidence of his death.
- Even Moria, known for stealing the
corpses of former Rocks members (like Captain John, Gill Bastar, and
Ganzui), doesn’t have his corpse, suggesting no one truly knows where
Rocks' body is.
These facts have led many fans
to speculate: Did Rocks truly die at the hands of Roger and Garp? Or did
something much more mysterious happen that day?
It could be that Rocks D.
Xebec’s fate at God Valley isn’t as simple as Sengoku’s official version of the
story!
