Gol D Roger

When we first watched One Piece, in the first episode the pirate king Gol D Roger was introduced. At that time it was said that Gol D Roger was executed and created a new era of pirates.
Luffy as the main character of the One Piece story, sailed the seas as a pirate with the reason of finding One Piece, the treasure left behind by the Pirate King Gol D Roger.
Although there are other reasons for Luffy to sail, the core of Luffy's journey is to find One Piece.
Therefore, the current pirate era (the era of Luffy et al) is the era created by Roger where most pirates aim to get the treasure left by the Pirate King. The question is "so what is the purpose of Gol D Roger sailing the sea?
Roger dan Kru

When Gol D Roger set sail, One Piece had not yet been discovered. So if we look at the present (the time of Luffy et al), then there is no reason for Roger to sail.
The most likely reason that we can think of is that Roger has wanted to go to sea since he was a child. Just like Ace as a child, Ace wanted to go to the ocean because he wanted to be free from anyone and become the most powerful fighter in the world.
When looking at the possibilities of Ace, then the most likely reason why Gol D Roger sailed the ocean was because he wanted to be free from anyone and become the most powerful fighter in the world.
But this is just my opinion, maybe Oda Sensei will make a flashback of Roger's past.
